Epidermis- thinner, superficial layer composed of closely packed cells called stratified(multiple layers) squamous(flat, squished cells) epithelium(cells densely packed)

Dermis- thicker, deeper layer that contains blood vessels, nerves, glands and hair

Hypodermis- not technically part of the skin. attaches the skin to underlying organs and tissues. contains adipose tissue
